For PreciselyPressed.com, “Naturally Clean” is not a catch phrase – it’s a way of life. We’re always searching for new ways to increase our contribution to protecting the environment, while maintaining the high standards our customers expect from us. Our commitment to the finest in environmentally-friendly cleaning techniques and recycling practices are outlined below in the paragraph on our Naturally Clean Process.
Traditional dry cleaners utilize perchloroethylene, a toxic solvent commonly known as “perc.” This chemical is used throughout many cycles of dry cleaning, and can be very harmful to the environment if not disposed of properly. It is 1.5 times heavier than water, and requires extreme temperatures to be completely removed from one’s clothing.
Some dry cleaners mention that they do not use perc as a solvent in their cleaning. In most cases, these cleaners are using the chemical DF2000. Although less toxic than perc, DF2000 is a chemical normally found in gasoline for automobiles.
The type of cleaning we use at Precisely Pressed is wet cleaning. IT IS SAFE FOR CLOTHES LABELED DRYCLEAN ONLY! It uses no chemicals and is a truly safe and eco-friendly way of cleaning garments and textiles. Wet Cleaning utilizes computer-controlled washing machines, biodegradable soaps and conditioners, and finishes the drying process by using special moisture sensitive dryers. Wet cleaning is not the same as laundry cleaning, and is perfect for use on any garments such as: silk, cashmere, woolens, and other fine delicates. In fact, Wet Cleaning is not only safe for the environment but to people as well! You’ll notice the difference as soon as you put on the clothes we clean – this remarkable new process actually deep cleans and removes older residual dry cleaning chemicals, while restoring softer, brighter, white-looking clothes.
“Organic” or Organically cleaned claims by dry cleaners are showing up on every corner, but customers must beware of this misleading marketing tactic. The term “organic” refers to toxic volatile organic compounds found in dry cleaning solvents, and there is nothing environmentally friendly about them. Unlike organic food, organic dry cleaning is neither healthy for the planet, nor healthy for people. The chemicals used pose such a threat to the environment that in many states they are being outlawed.
Any dry cleaner advertising that it is “organic” may be misleading you.
Dry cleaning hangers quickly add up and many end up in the garbage. At PreciselyPressed.com, we provide our customers with a hanger recycle box. Once your box is full, simply return it with your next order and receive $2 credited to your VIP account for the being a “good green citizen”.
We package your dry cleaning in plastic garment bags for two reasons: 1) to keep your clothing clean and safe during storage at our facility, and 2) for transportation back to your home. These bags are made of recyclable plastic, and are environmentally friendly – please recycle them. We will sometimes package more than one garment in a single plastic bag provided there’s enough room and garments won’t get crushed. (We of course won’t attempt this if quality will be compromised).
We also offer our customers the option of utilizing our innovative new covert-a-bag instead of plastic. These convert-a-bags are constructed of durable fabric, and are reusable. Even nicer, you can convert the convert-a-bag from a garment covering into a laundry bag. Simply place your dirty laundry into the bag, and the next time we come to your home, or you come to us, we’ll take your full laundry bag, convert it back into a garment bag and use it to cover your finished dry cleaning. No more plastic bags! We actually recommend having two, so while one is at Precisely Pressed, you still have one at home to fill up! And remember, your first bag is free!
